outdoor video #3
31 August 2009well, i seem to have somehow misplaced the third beach video for “wait and see,” so we’ll move on to the park. here is “please don’t,” the first track from simple machinery.
well, i seem to have somehow misplaced the third beach video for “wait and see,” so we’ll move on to the park. here is “please don’t,” the first track from simple machinery.
the second video at the beach is of an unreleased song called “you’re going”. we’ve been playing it live for a few years, but it hasn’t made it on an album yet for some reason… speaking of the beach, i just got home from a bike ride along the water. it’s so nice outside today!
it’s time to go outside, and we’ve chosen the beach. this particular beach turned out to be a little tricky because evidently it costs $8 to be able to use it. however, our new friend jacob who was working there let us in for a song, and i don’t mean that figuratively. here is “walk away” a.k.a. “the first song we ever wrote.” what sounds like static in the background is the sound of the water hitting the sand. i want to be back there right now…
well, today is the last day of the home tour, but don’t let that get you down! tomorrow, we’ll start the outdoor videos beginning at the beach. this is “never have to guess” from our first album recorded in kate’s studio.
now, on to the kitchen for a rendition of “still alright” from our first album. we opted to record on the side of the room that didn’t show the dirty dishes. what is that face craig is making at 00:56??
ok, so, there have been a series of strange events happening here today. kate and i went to the gym where i put my things in a locker as usual. i believe i put my normal combination lock on the locker, but when i went to take my clothes out later there was a different (although very similar) lock on it! so, i freaked out a little and looked all over the locker room to see if i had mistaken this locker for another one, but there was no mistake. i had a guy who worked there cut the mystery lock off, and there was my bag, waiting patiently for me to come change my clothes. what is going on?!! did someone switch the lock? did i somehow become the owner of another lock? is someone playing tricks on me like in amélie? i want to know what happened to that lock. so, after we left the gym, there was some strange banana substance on the rear window of our car. it looked semi-chewed. did the same force that controlled my combination lock put the banana there? did a squirrel drop it from a tree? i’m just waiting for something else to happen.

for the third in our series, we recorded in my studio/office. yes, that’s a painting of a slow loris on the wall. this is “everywhere” from our first album, complete with cymbal crash during the breakdown.
volume 2 takes us to the bathroom for a semi-coherent version of “never again” from simple machinery. the reverb was great in there, but i’m not sure if you can tell from this video…
we recorded a bunch of videos this weekend. the first set of videos is from the “home tour” where we recorded one in each room of my new apartment. this is “since i met you” from the simple machinery album. we did most of these in one take - the person to point out the most mistakes gets a prize.
we also took some amazingly cheesy press photos at the beach!

craig is visiting me in chicago this weekend, and we’ve decided to record a bunch of acoustic videos to post online in the next few weeks. we tried to do it last night, and you can see the result below. craig arrived after staying up all night mixing songs for his solo record, and he fell asleep on the couch about a minute after we stopped recording this. kate is to blame for making us laugh, although i have a feeling she would deny it. we’ll hope for more success today!
