Greater Lakes album art

We’re excited to finally unveil the cover art for our upcoming album, Greater Lakes! Kate Pugsley did a fantastic job on this one.

We’ll have a pre-order for the CD and LP available as soon as we know the release date.

Bears Kickstarter campaign starts today!

Dear friends,

The time has come to announce our Kickstarter campaign to help fund the production and release of our third album! We would appreciate it so much if you could help us get to our funding goal by August 31.

For those of you who have followed us recently, you may be wondering why we’re trying to raise money when we will be working with a label. Well, it’s like this… We plan to work with Misra Records to distribute and promote the album after its release, but we are responsible for the up-front costs of album production.

WIth everything in the music industry being in flux at the moment, we are exploring a new model for releasing records. Our arrangement with Misra will ideally work out in both of our favors—they don’t need to lay out a bunch of cash at the beginning, and we won’t be forever indebted to them, economically and contractually speaking. So, we’ll be able to retain more of the rights to our music than we would under a normal record contract, and the label will still promote our music in more places than we can reach by ourselves and distributed it to stores around the world.

So, if this Kickstarter campaign is fully funded in the next 30 days, we’ll be on the verge of trying out a new way to release records. Will you join us?

Oh, and please tell your friends! :)

Love,

Bears

Something I can use

So, I graduated from grad school yesterday. Although I won’t technically be finished with my degree project for another few weeks, it felt pretty good. I hadn’t related these two things in a while, but I wrote a song about going back to school and trying something different a few years ago for The Golden Rule EP. I was flipping through my old notebook of songs this afternoon, playing my favorites, when I remembered how much I used to like this song. I think it’s still pretty decent, although I always wish I were a better singer. But it’s the thought that counts.

You can listen to this song and think about doing something interesting with your life (or be glad that you already are).
